20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea 7/10

20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne

7/10
"Verne's prophetic masterpiece of maritime adventure has fascinated every generation of readers since its publication in 1870"
Jules Verne's 20 000 Leagues Under The Sea is a science fiction novel following Professor Aaronax, a professor of marine biology, who goes to study a mysterious submarine creature that is wrecking ships in the year of 1866. When the Professor is lost overboard along with two of his companions, he is saved by this creature, which turns out to in fact be an extremely modern submarine vessel known as the 'Nautilus', run by the erratic and allusive Captian Nemo. The novel follows the Nautilus as it journeys around the world, with each chapter having a new adventure that reveals more about the the world, the vessel and the characters within.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. It is slow to read due to the older-fashioned language used however this does not detract from the story line. It is a fascinating read and if you are looking for a more classic novel to fill your bookshelf, I would recommend. You need to have patience to read this book, but it is well worth it. Travelling under the sea with Professor Aaronax has taught me so many interesting things and I feel that I have a better grip on the world- as crazy as that sounds. Also as a side note, Jules Verne wrote Journey To The Center Of The Earth, which you may have seen the adaption in cinemas. :)

The Selection Series 6/10

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

Book 1: 7/10, Book 2: 6/10, Book 3: 5/10

The Selection Series follows the story of America Singer, a low class girl who is chosen to participate in what is known as The Selection- where her and thirty-five other girls will compete against each other to win the heart and hand in marriage, of gorgeous Prince Maxon. However, America wants nothing more than to stay with her family and love of her life Aspen, not prance around the Kings castle competing for a man she doesn't know's hand in marriage. As America learns the way of royalty, she begins to see that Prince Maxon is much more than he seems, and she may want to stay after all...

I didn't really like this series. I think that I would have enjoyed them much more a few years ago. Nevertheless, here I am. The major bone that I need to pick with Kiera Cass is the plot of the novels. This is as the romance feels rushed and the set-up unnatural. The series is basically a written version of The Batchelor- and this is a bigger fail than Blake & Sam in 2014. I definitely do not recommend this book, whilst the first is not bad, the rest of the series will let you down and there are thousands of other amazing books out there. Go check out my recommendations if you are thinking of reading this- because I don't think it is worth your time. Click here to see The Selection Series on goodreads

Since You've Been Gone 7/10

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

7/10
Morgan Matson's 2014 novel 'Since You've Been Gone' is a contemporary novel that delves into the the importance of friendship and love, especially for seventeen year-old Emily Hughes. When Emily's best friend Sloane disappears with her family, leaving no trace except for  a list of things for Emily to accomplish in the summer, Emily is lost. She resolves that if she completes the list she may be able to find Sloane. However the list is made up of things that are the opposite of Emily's shy, reserved nature, including to go skinny dipping, kiss a stranger, break something and more. The novel follows Emily as she ventures to complete the list over the summer, and the relationships that form as a consequence.

I very much enjoyed reading this book. Morgan Matson makes her books really special as she includes extra things into the book such as music playlists and handwritten letters, almost as if it is a journal. This is really awesome because it is fun when you can recognise some of the songs and feel more deeply involved with the characters. Also, Frank is an awesome, funny and easy-to-love character that is created so well by Matson.
The reason that I am not giving this book a higher rating is simply because it is not the type of book that I love to read. However, this is the type of book that would be perfect to cure a book hangover after a particularly good series or a world-stopping romance as it is an all-round feel-good book with a fantastic storyline and comforting ending. Click here to see Since You've Been Gone on goodreads

A Court of Thorns and Roses 10/10

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass

Book 1: 10/10, Book 2: 10/10, Book 3: released in May 2017
A Court of Thorns and Roses is a fantasy trilogy following a girl named Feyre who, after killing a wolf who was in fact Fairie, is taken to the world of the Farie's. As she is forced to live with the temperamental High Lord of the Spring Court, Tamlin, she starts to see a different side of him and become wrapped in this world she has become a part of. I can't say anythin more without giving away the events of the novel.

Recently I stumbled into the world of ACOTOR after a fellow book lover recommended me the series. I was skeptical, but by god I shouldn't of been. These two books (the third book comes out in 2017) were so well written, with the story line and characters developing seamlessly and in a way that allows you to revel in the world that Feyre has become apart of. Mass has a stunning writing style and the world that she has created so vividly seems so real in my mind. I cannot recommend this series enough. One of the few books that will keep you reading all night and desperate for more. If you are ever looking for an amazing book that intertwines adventure, fantasy and love, this is your novel! My stomach gets butterflies just thinking about the book. READ IT.  Click here to see A Court of Thorns and Roses Trilogy on Goodreads

Everyday 6/10

Everyday by David Levithan

6/10
This book is about 'A', a human soul who wakes in a different body every day. After of sixteen years of waking up in a different body with the age of the host corresponding with the age of A, one day A wakes up in the body of Justin. However, after meeting Justin's girlfriend Rhiannon, a deep connection is formed between with this girl. However, unlike every other day, A wants nothing more than to stay with this amazing girl. As the novel progresses, you see the struggle of desire versus practicality, hope versus promise, witnessing how loneliness and a lack of belonging strengthens the desire for love in individuals.

Altogether, this book was a fascinating read. It was interesting to see glimpses into peoples lives and the perspectives of people who are boys, girls, have disabilities, gay, depressed, etc. Levithan has accurately portrayed a various array of sixteen year-old's- no easy feat- whilst simultaneously not going over the top with stereotypical teenage mindsets. However, the novel looses its points in the love story between this lonely soul 'A', and everyday girl Rhiannon. To me, the romance felt forced and unreal. 'A' just happened to do something special with someone and it was instantly attached, it was the stereotypical 'love at first sight' kind of notion which does not appeal to me. At all. So, while this book is interesting and an original concept, I wouldn't recommend as it dragged on and did not leave me feeling satisfied. Click here to see Everyday on goodreads

Legend Trilogy 7.5/10

Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

Book 1: Legend 8.5/10, Book 2: Prodigy 7/10, Book 3: Champion 7.5/10
Set in a futuristic dystopian society where oceans have risen and caused America to split into two country's known as the Colonies and where the novel is based, the Republic . This book follows the story of two people: Day (guy)- an attractive, loving and street smart criminal who hates the Republic and lives in the slums, and June (girl)- a smart, deadly, prodigy who is a devout follower of the Republic. When June's brother dies and she is sent on a mission to find the criminal suspect who killed him (Day), she discoveres that the Republic, the government that she has trusted her whole life, is hiding some pretty major secrets. The runaway pair soon become unlikely allies and work to discover the reality of both the Republic and the Colonies.

So, this trilogy is really intense and interesting. It is written so descriptively through the eyes of both Day and June. Marie Lu has created two extremely smart and free-thinking characters who pick up on things that most people would miss. Being written through their eyes, when they see something, it is fully analysed and conclusions are drawn that lead you further into the dilemma's and conflicts in the book- instead of just describing it. Marie Lu has created something that is mentally stimiluating yet still has time for romance. Additionally, the ending to the trilogy is creative and different. Marie Lu doesn't tell you exactly what happens yet all ends are still tied off. My major critique about the books was that at times, it was not as gripping as I would hope. However, I am glad I read this series and hence, do recommend this book.

Divergent Trilogy 10/10

Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

B1: Divergent 10/10, B2: Insurgent 10/10, B3: Allegiant 9.8/10
The novel follows a girl named Tris, who lives in a dystopian post-apocalyptic Chicago in a society whereby everyone lives in one of five factions. These factions stop anyone from exercising free will and if someone was to rebel against their faction, they are killed. Tris, after finding out that she is a rare 'divergent' who does not fit into a faction, chooses the faction of Dauntless. The novel is about Tris finding herself and dealing with her new life where she has to keep secrets from everyone, even her gorgeous instructor who seemingly gets under her skin like no one else.

You probably have heard of this trilogy before or even watched the movies, but honestly, the hype surrounding these books is all justified. Roth has an excellent writing style and is realistic about the consequences of war. Also, if you have seen the movies, don't pass off the books. Like most movies, only the basic plot is covered. The books go way deeper into Tris and Tobias as individuals and what is happening in the world around them- plus they make more sense than the movies. Furthermore, the romance is a great feature of the novels! So, even if you think you already know what happens, still have a read. I don't give a book 10/10 for nothing so you know that this series takes awesome to a new level. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!!  Click here to see the Divergent Trilogy on goodreads

Dust Lands Trilogy 9/10

Blood Red Road- Moira Young

Book 1: Blood Red Road 9/10, Book 2: Rebel Heart 8/10, Book 3: Raging Star 8.7/10

This series follows Saba, a girl who lives in a dystopian post-apocalyptic society with her father, twin brother and little sister. They live far from civilisation, or lack there of, in a desert where they struggle to get by. One day, Saba’s world is turned upside down when cloaked horsemen come and kidnap her twin and other half, Lugh, killing her father in the process. Knowning that she cannot survive without her brother, Saba embarks on a journey to get him back from the evil clutches of the all-controlling king who has horrible plans for Lugh.

This series is definitely a recommend. The style of the writing that Moira Young has used her stories in is really unique and unlike anything I have read before. Another one of those books that gets you really attached to the characters and what is happening in their lives. I definitely both laughed and cried (multiple times) in just the first book! If you are looking for an adventurous series with a sexy side of romance, this is a great book for you.
NOTE: The ending will make you cry, laugh and sad because the trilogy is over.    Click here to see the Dust Lands trilogy on goodreads

Violet Eden Chapters by Jessica Shirvington 8.5/10

Violet Eden Chapters by Jessica Shirvington

B1 Embrace: 8/10, B2 Enticed: 8/10, B3: Emblaze 7.5/10, B4: 8.5/10, B5: 8.5/10

This series follows a girl named Violet Eden and the events that occur when she goes from a normal, art-loving teenager to Grigori fighting warrier when she discovers on her 17th birthday that she is part human, part angel. With her Grigori partner being her long-time best friend who she has always loved- Lincoln- she has to decide whether she wants this life in which she will be in constant danger, and more importantly, constricted to the rules of being nothing but partners with Lincoln. As she struggles to accept what she has become and the kick-ass skills that come along with it, she meets the gorgeous exiled angel Pheonix and gets involved in a world that she never could have imagined where she is more powerful than anyone could have expected.
This series is awesome. Jessica Shirvington hasn't skipped over anything like most books do. Life, sex, love, hate, loss, everything. It is put straight out there in all it's imperfections and tied into Violet's thoughts and actions. I also like this series because all the books flow into one another, with the series not having a new adventure each book. Plus, I felt like at the end of the series, all the ends were tied and although being both a sad and happy ending, it felt real. Shirvington is an amazing writer and has done a great job with the love in throughout the books. While a large component of the novels involves 'love', I feel that Violet, while sometimes getting caught up in it, just keeps going on with life and the important stuff with all the shit that's happening- which is refreshing. Just keep in mind that this series is a 5 book series, which is quite long. So if you don't have the patience to read more than a trilogy I would go read another, shorter series (I recommend the Juliette Chronicles- check out my must reads for the review). However, if you have a taste for action romance and a desire for a well written series that will absorb you into a new world, this is the book for you. Do Recommend!     Click here to see the Violet Eden Chapters on goodreads

Breathe 8/10

Breathe by Abbi Glines

Rating: 7.5/10
This book is about a girl named Sadie White who, because her mother is pregnant and does not have an income, gets a job as a staff hand at a mansion. But this is not just any mansion, it is the mansion of successful every-girls-fantasy rock star Jax Stone. Sadie is not interested in having a relationship as she has so much on her plate and can not put her job on the line for some guy. However, there is something about Jax that she can't stay away from - yeah you get where I'm going? It's one of those books.
This book is a guilty pleasure. It is pure romance; boy meets girl falls in love etc. But before you pass it off to go read an I'd-rather-watch-paint-dry biography, read the first 3 chapters. You get hooked. I read this book in a day and only stopped for basic necessities- it's that addictive. Even though it is corny at times, it was refreshing to forget about life and get involved in some non-important drama. It brought out my girly side and got me emotionally invested and a book that does that is doing pretty well. So I do recommend if you are open to a romance novel!!! If you just scoffed at this whole review and are a close minded person, I also recommend this book for you- because it is refreshing and whilst I was skeptical about this book, it exceeded my expectations and made for a good, quick read.
NOTE: Abbi Glines says this book is apart of a series, and it is, but not in the way that you're thinking. You do not have to read the books in order or even at all. Each book is its own story and explanations of everything. The series just shares characters e.g. Sam and Sally fall in love. Sam's best friend is called Simon - in the next book in the series Simon will find his true love with Samantha- so the stories are different, characters similar.

Stolen 9.8/10

Stolen by Lucy Christopher

9.8/10!!!!!
This book is about a girl named Gemma who was at an airport with her parents when she met an attractive guy who, unbeknownst to her, slips a drug into her drink when she isn't looking and takes her to outback Australia. The novel is about her starting to see Ty (her captor) in a different light while she tries to deal with her new life that she can't escape from.

This book is really really really good! It is written so well I felt like it could be me who was taken. The set out of the book is so clever and it really helps to tie off the ending- which is realistic and perfect. Lucy Christopher has developed the book so your view of Ty alters as the book progresses in a way that is makes the reader (me) get Stockholm syndrome. When the book ends you really contemplate everything that happened and you keep replaying everything in your mind- its beautiful. One of those books that you feel really connected to the characters. READ READ READ READ READ READ READ READ!!!! 100% recommend! Also click on the link and have a read of the synopsis, it is very intriguing.

The ALONE Trilogy 2.5/10

The ALONE Trilogy by James Phelan

Book 1: Chasers 2/10, Book 2: Survivor 2.5/10, Book 3: Quarrantine 3.5/10
Trilogy about a guy called Jesse who while on a UN Camp in New York, survives an explosion. The explosion however, either killed people or turned them into zombie like 'chasers' that drink blood and kill people. It is about him finding survivors and getting through the disaster.
OK holy whatthehell... The first book in this series is completely pointless. Turns out, the whole time the guy is just imagining his friends and he is actually alone, so he is back to square freaking one. It is complete bull and sh*t all that happens is he leaves the hotel twice. Spare yourself the agony and leave this series. In each book, nothing happens. He needs to be more adventurous. DO NOT RECOMMEND! No offence James, I'm sure there is somebody out there who likes it- just not this gal.

Partials Trilogy 5/10

The Partials Trilogy by Dan Wells

Book 1: Partials 5.5/10, Book 2: Fragments 4/10, Book 3: Ruins 6/10
A dystopian post-apocalyptic trilogy about a girl named Kira who lives in a world where all 20 or something thousand humans died from a deadly disease that is still killing newborn babies as the newborns are not immune- thus, the number of humans is slowly diminishing. The immune survivors live in a town on Long Island. The humans are stuck on this island because the mainland is Partial territory (partials are human-like super soldiers) and the humans are at war with them. Both races are dying- the humans babies are not immune, and the partials have an expiry date of 20 years (which is right now in the book). Kira is trying to find a cure and to do that she needs these enemies to work together and discover who the Partials really are.
This series is a real drag. I felt like Dan Wells should have just written one book because I there is so much stuff that is boring- like all the journey's she takes which are so long and irrelevant. Don't get me wrong, there are some good parts, but there are so many better choices of book series out there. The series raises too many questions and gives not enough answers so I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Wolves of Mercy Falls 8/10

The Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater

Book 1: Shiver 8/10 Book 2: Linger 7.9/10 & Book 3: Forever 8/10
Trilogy about a girl named Grace who after being attacked by wolves as a young child, is from then on always drawn to the wolves living in the woods, especially the one with the bright yellow eyes. In the summer, Grace falls in love with a yellow-eyed boy who she discovers he is no ordinary human, but the wolf always watching her; Sam. Together they're trying stop all the things that are forcing them to be apart.

This book is so beautiful. Maggie Stiefvater has such an amazing way with words I have quotes of hers stuck all around my room. She made me laugh and cry and I love that. The series gets better as it goes along. The book is written in a duel perspective alternating between Sam and Grace (and sometimes others). Sam and Grace's relationship is so beautiful I want it for myself. Stiefvater goes into such detail of both the surrounding and the characters that the world of Mercy Falls feels so real in my head and my emotions align with the characters in the books. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a relaxing read with some nice tea while you are sitting on a hammock in a garden of roses. *Also the books are written in coloured ink which is awesome!*

NOTE: There is a spinoff kinda thing called Sinner- focusing on two of the characters in forever (the third book) which is also very good. I have written a review about it below!

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

8.5/10 :)
The adjoining novel to the Wolves of Mercy Falls Series. Not about Sam and Grace but Cole, the very attractive, cocky, rude rock star who is in love with Isabel, the gorgeous, snappy, independent, smart girl who is trying to make a life for herself in Los Angeles. The book is all about their relationship and ohmagod its amazing. Once again Stiefvater has outdone herself. Their relationship is so difficult but so clear- it has been constructed cleverly especially with the alternating perspective between Isabel and Cole. Also, Cole's sarcasm makes me laugh throughout the entire book and his lyrics are awesome. I wish the band he was in in the books NARKOTICA was real! YESYESYES Recommend!!!!!

The Night Creatures Trilogy 7.5/10

The Night Creatures Trilogy by Marianne de Pierres

Book 1: Burn Bright 8/10, Book 2: Angel Arias 7/10 & Book 3: Shine Light 7.5/10
Trilogy about a girl named Retra who after her brother runs away from their strict rule-bound town to the mystical land of Ixion- an island of ever-night and parties, follows his footsteps and runs away be together again. When she arrives she notices that she is different from the other teenagers in that she does not just want to party and have fun and thus the dark creatures in control of the island are suspicious of her. As she discovers the secrets of the island and forms a bond with its attractive yet evil leader she realises that there is a lot of lives at steak, including her and her brother's.
I do recommend! Once again another addictive series that I couldn't get enough of. :) The books are structured really well and I was keen to read the next book in the series after each book. Also, this is a really good example of not judging a book by its cover (and title) because honestly, they are weird af.

Origin 7/10

Origin by Jessica Khoury

7/10 :)
Book about a girl named Pia who was scientifically engineered to be immortal. All her life she has been kept away and raised by scientists in the middle of the jungle. When she sees a guy from the outside world when she escapes one night, she realises that the scientists have been keeping dangerous secrets and Pia wants to escape.

Really liked this book. It was well written and exciting and included a hot jungle boy who I fell in love with. I don't want to spoil anything for this book so I won't say too much on the actual story-line. This book is a quick read (I read it in a day) and a stand-alone book so if your looking for something quick to temporarily quench your reading desperation I recommend.

Inside Out Duology 4/10

Inside Out & Outside In (Two Books) by Maria V Snyder

Book 1: Inside Out 5/10 & Book 2: Outside In 4.8/10
Duology about a girl named Trella who lives in a vessel in space travelling to a habitable planet. There is a really set in social hierarchy, uppers and scrubs, with scrubs stuck doing all the boring and hard jobs and living in cramped quarters. Trella starts an uprising and challenges the authority blah blah blah these books were really boring. Maria V Snyder really let herself down compared to the Study Series (which is so amazing one of my all time favourites- check out MUST READS). I found the books really slow and pointless (sorry no offense). Do not recommend!

The Ashes Trilogy 8.5/10

The Ashes Trilogy by Ilsa J. Bick

Book 1: Ashes 8.5/10, Book 2: Shadows 8.5/10 & Book 3: 6.1/10
Distopian Trilogy about a girl with cancer named Alex who is hiking in the woods when there is an explosion. After realising that all the electronics are down Alex figures that the explosion was actually a very large EMP (electromagnetic pulse- a bigger version of the bomb Basher uses in Ocean's 11 to cut the power during fight night to allow George Clooney and Matt Damon to get into the- sorry I'm getting carried away). However, the bomb killed nearly all adults and turned most of the teens into cannibals with only the young and old surviving. The only teens to survive were those with some kind of problem that didn't allow the EMP to fry their brain- Alex had cancer. After meeting another guy her age who happens to be a really attractive babe, Tom, and a kid named Ellie. The three try to survive in this new zombie-like world.
YOU SHOULD READ. The setting is really awesome, kind of zombie but not because the zombies are still alive. Very realistic, I feel like this could happen to us (although it won't) but you know what I mean. Only issue was with the third book, the middle of the book was told from so many different perspectives it kind of bored me. Still definitly recommend! Ignore the names of the books and you will love them.

The Rosie Black Chronicles 7/10

The Rosie Black Chronicles by Lara Morgan

Book 1: Genesis 6/10, Book 2: Equinox 6.5/10 & Book 3: Dark Star 8/10
Trilogy set 500 years into the future about a girl who after accidentally finding a special box, gets involved with an illegal co-operation who will kill her and anyone she knows, to get it. She is forced to rely on a super super hot guy called Pip who is a feral (low on the society's hierarchy) but she doesn't know if she should trust him let alone what is going on.
Yeah I read this book and I did get addicted in the drama but overall I just didn't feel satisfied with the series. The last book in the series- Dark Star- is obviously the best and has an awesome ending! But I wish Lara Morgan had of made the first two as good. If you are looking for a series to read in a few days that are addictive and clever but not truly life changing this is the one.

Reboot Duology 8/10

Reboot and Rebel (two books) by Amy Tintera

Book 1: Reboot 8.5/10, Book 2: Rebel 8/10
Duology about Wren, a girl who is a reboot (when after you die your body 'reboots' and you wake up again- however the longer you are dead the stronger, tougher, faster and more emotionless you are). Wren is a '178', she was dead for 178 minutes, which is the longest time out of any reboot. So pretty much she is the most badass. Wren lives under the control of the government with all the other reboots. However when Wren accepts the challenge to train a nearly human '22', Callum, who although being nowhere near as skilled as the other reboots especially herself, makes her feel something in her 'emotionlessness'. When Callum fails his new reboot duties Wren is told to eliminate him, but there is something stopping her she disobeys orders and helps her and Callum escape.
I do recommend this book! Although there are better books out there. I felt like this book would have been more interesting a couple of years ago when I was 14 not 16, but nevertheless it is an interesting read. Also, who doesn't like a bad-ass heroine (not heroin) who doesn't take shit from anybody? Me. - - If you want an even more badass gal who is fkn awesome read Throne of Glass (I will review later).

Delirium Trilogy 9/10

Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver

Book 1: Delirium 9.5/10, Book 2: Pandemonium 8.5/10 & Book 3: Requiem 9/10
Trilogy about Lena, a girl who lives in a love-expelled dystopian society where the government rules love a disease which people call 'deliria'. When you turn 18 you have to have the cure- an operation which stops you from ever loving. The story circles a girl called Lena who has always wanted to have the operation because her mum was infected with the 'disease of love' and killed herself. Yet when she meets a boy (Alex) a couple of months from her operation and starts to fall in love, she doesn't know if she actually wants to be cured.
I really love the idea of this book (pun intended). Lauren Oliver writes really well and she set up the whole dystopian scene in an understandable way! Buuuuutt, Book 1 ends on a ohmagodwhatdafuqwhy moment- which is good because it keeps you on edge but it means that you CANNOT READ THE SERIES UNLESS YOU INTEND TO READ ALL 3. So lazy people who only read the first books of series, go away now. Overall I loved the series and I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a YA distopian romance to become addicted to. And also, the movie is coming out soon and Emma Roberts is in it so I hope its good (the trailer looks shit though).

The Grisha Trilogy 10/10

The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
B1: Shadow and Bone 10/10, B2: Ruin and Rising 9/10, B3: Seige and Storm 10/10
"Set in the fictional country of Ravka, there is a form of magic that exists known as The Small Science. Those who can wield it are called Grisha, powerful practitioners considered to be a part of an exclusive class." - this explanation is better than anything I could do so here is a snippet.
This series follows a girl named Alina Starkov who has grown up completely normal and unnoticed in an orphanage. One day whilst trying to protect her super attractive hunk of a friend from being killed by a monster on the Shadow Fold (a large area of darkness full of cannibalistic monsters accidentally created by a Grisha many years ago) she reveals a power that she didn't even know about and thus leads her into the world of the Grisha where she might be the only thing able to save her world.
This series is A+ amazing. Leigh Bardugo has done an awesome job in all three books. None of the books are a let down and I was really intrigued the entire trilogy!! Also, there are so many attractive guys in the series- The Darkling, Mal, Nikolai (he comes in the second book and luckily stays for the third) ahhhhhh. Definitely recommend! You will not regret this trilogy. I love books that bring out emotion in me and throughout the series I was always feeling happy or worried or in love etc. I cried 3 times in the last book (which has one of the best book endings I have ever read. Seriously- it's original, sad, happy, EVERYTHING!

Cold Awakening Series 5/10

Cold Awakening Series by Robin Wasserman
B1: Frozen 5/10, B2: Shattered 4/10, B3: Torn 7/10
Distopian
series about a girl, Lia Kahn, who is turned into a mechanical person 'skinner' after a car accident nearly takes her life. She has always been super popular, pretty, loved by all etc etc. and now she is considered a freak by both her friends and family. The books follow her as she tries to deal with her new life and find out more information about the corporation who controls all the skinners.

This series is interesting. Not the kind of book that makes you want to stay up until 3am reading it, more of a lets-read-30-mins-a-day or I'll get too bored. EXCEPT the third book! The third book is really interesting and I loved it- definitely better
than the first two. Overall, the series is a good read and I do recommend. Plus the ending is awesome for book 3!! Not anything that I expected and I love when a book does that!!!  NOTE: Robin Wasserman updated the name of the books and their covers in the series (as you can see they look so much more appealing- the new ones are the top set) however, the books are still exactly the same inside.

MUST READS (read or die)

MUST READS! *I will add more must reads as I read them*

Hey,
So to start things off with a bang I am going to recommend some books that are absolutely amazing, show-stopping, life changing etc. These books are the one that make you look like a serial killer gone shreck the next day because you went to sleep at 3:37am. The books that truly bring out your inner nerd and throw your social life out the window until you have read every word on every page with breaks for only the most basic human needs- eat, sleep, rave & the unmentionables. In other words:

The books I endeavour to find.

CONTESTANT ONE: Poison Study Series by Maria V Snyder

10/10
This fantasy series follows the life of orphan girl Yelena, a 20 something year-old girl who, when sentenced to death, is given the option to work for Commander- the ruler of Ixia. However, this is no ordinary job, Yelena is offered the position of posion taster. Faced with immenant death, Yelena chooses to live, and as she serves her sentence, become wrapped in the palace life, in particular the mysterious, sexy, assassin and right-hand of the commander- Valek, who also happens to be her trainer. The books were originally made in trilogy form, so, if you aren't a long series fan you can stop at book three feeling satisfied and knowing that all ends have been tied. Due to popular demand- pretty much everyone just went crazy over the trilogy and demanded more- Snyder has written 3 more, with 2 more set to come. So there is no excuse not to read the books as if you either like series or hate anything more than a trilogy, these books fit.
Honestly, this book is a godsend. Snyder has created a world that is so intricate and full of life that you could loose yourself for days in. Reading this series, I was so wrapped up in the adventure and love interests. It is the kind of series that will leave you with nails bitten down to the stubs, a book hangover, and a need to know more about Yelena, Valek, Ari, Janco, and all these other characters who you won't know about until you read the book (hopefully soon). Seriously, I recommend that you read the first chapter of the book in a bookstore or library, and if you are not hooked... move on to my next recommendation and cry because you are missing out. Click here to see Poison Study on goodreads

NOTE: Maria V Snyder has continued the trilogy to create a series of 5+ books, you do not need to read the books past the 3rd one- everything finishes like a normal trilogy would- it is just Snyder trying to rake in a bit of dough because everyone is obsessed with her writing (guilty as charged).

CONTESTANT TWO: Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

10/10
This dystopian trilogy is set in a wasteland future and follows a girl called Juliette. Juliette has a killer touch- literally- and is locked in a cell for nearly a year after an accident where her touch killed a young boy. When she is removed, it is discovered that the head of sector 45- Adam Warner, wants to use her power as a weapon of war, much to Juliette's horror. In this fight for freedom, Juliette stumbles across things she never thought were possible... happiness, friendship, love.

OK! Mafi has done an amazing job with these novels. The ideas are original and flow seamlessly into the rest of the novel. I particularly liked the character development that you can see throughout the novels with both Juliette, Adam and Warner. Thus, I definitely recommend this trilogy! NOTE: there are more sexy hunks in this book- how can you go wrong? Also, I have recommended this book to a tonne of my friends, and those who have read it like it just as much as I did, and not all of them are readers. I don't know what to say to make you read this book? Just do it, for my sake because it is a priority.   Click here to see Shatter Me on goodreads

CONTESTANT THREE: Stolen by Lucy Christopher

9.8/10!!!!!
This book is about a girl named Gemma who was at an airport with her parents when she met an attractive guy who, unbeknownst to her, slips a drug into her drink when she isn't looking and kidnaps her to outback Australia. Lucy Christopher has developed the book so your view of Ty alters as the book progresses in a way that is makes the reader addresses Stockholm syndrome. When the book ends you really contemplate everything that happened and you keep replaying everything in your mind- its beautiful. One of those books that you feel really connected to the characters. CONTESTANT FOUR: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass

10/10
A Court of Thorns and Roses is a fantasy trilogy following a girl named Feyre who, after killing a wolf who was in fact Fairie, is taken to the world of the Farie's. As she is forced to live with the tempermental High Lord of the Spring Court, Tamlin, she starts to see a different side of him and become wrapped in this world she has become a part of.
Recently I stumbled into the world of ACOTOR after a fellow book lover recommended me the series. I was skeptical, but by god I shouldn't of been. These two books (the third book comes out in 2017) were so well written, with the storyline and characters developing seamlessly and in a way that allows you to revel in the world that Feyre has become apart of. Mass has a stunning writing style and the world that she has created so vividly seems so real in my mind. I cannot recommend this series enough. One of the few books that will keep you reading all night and desperate for more. If you are ever looking for an amazing book that interwines adventure, fantasy and love, this is your novel! READ IT.  Click here to see A Court of Thorns and Roses Trilogy on Goodreads

CONTESTANT FIVE: The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

10/10

EXTRA: if you are still desperate, I would also recommend Delirium by Lauren Oliver! (It is a series of 3). Click here to see Delirium on goodreads

BOOKS VS GIRL?

Hey to the people out there who have stumbled across my page!
Recently I felt the desire to connect pen to paper- fingers to keys- and create something that I am passionate about, books. Hence, here on this trusty ol' online blog I will be reviewing and putting out recommendations for the books I read. Whilst I am a lover of dystopian, romance and fantasy books, I am open to all genres. I pretty much live in the YA section of the library, so if you are a 57 year old man I am going to take a leap of faith and assume this blog probably isn't best suited to your tastes... probably.
OK so.. with this blog, I will be reviewing books after I read them and putting out recommendations every so often. If the book I read is part of a series I will only review it once the series is finished so that I can review the series as a whole! Thus, sharing with all you lucky people who have the time to read blogs and books, which books you should and shouldn't read. Winner winner chicken dinner.
